Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), Kothamangalam
Mar Athanasius College, a premier institution for higher education in Kerala, was founded in 1955, at Kothamangalam, Ernakulam District. Since the inception, the College has made consistent progress providing higher education to many generations, in and around central Kerala. Today, this minority educational institution, situated in a rural hinterland, excels in academics, sports and games as well as in the realm of social service. The college strives to impart quality education and a value that in turn helps students achieve economic stability and security.
The college offers 13 under-graduate and 16 post-graduate courses spread over in Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities streams. The college also runs four research centers in English, Chemistry, Physics and Economics Departments. The college was accredited at ‘A Grade’ by NAAC in 2002 and 2010. The college is accredited at A+ grade in the third cycle of reaccreditation by NAAC, 2017. In 2009, the College was given the status of College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC and was later extended up to 31st of March, 2019. The college has also received financial support under the DST-FIST scheme. The college was conferred with the Autonomous status by UGC on February 2016. Department of Biotechnology of the college was selected for financial assistance under the Star College scheme in 2019. The Ministry of Human Resources Development of India has selected the college under the RUSA scheme in 2019.www.macollege.in
The college also benefits from the qualities of its mother state Kerala like the highest human development index (comparable to that of any European high index country), highest literacy rate and highest female to male sex ratio unlike any other state in India.
